I just did 30DS in a hotel room, on the floor with a towel and two bottles of shampoo as weights. I think that counts as serious dedication right? I even biked last night before the "fitness room" closed. (I put that in quotes because it was a SMALL room with a bike, an elliptical and a broken treadmill. I think some people have better/more equipment than that in their house. Plus, the television only played one channel so I watched replays of the Tour d'France...)
It was a lot easier with NOT 8 lb weights and I still broke into quite a sweat. Though planks are just killers. You try holding up 200 lbs for a minute and see how you do! Didn't take any breaks, and even though this time I started the last set of planks on time, I finished early. Damn!
But I need to shower and pack back up so I can hit the road again (and not miss continental breakfast!). Cheers!

30 Day Shred: L2D4
Did most of the workout without a break up until circuit 3. And even then, I just took longer to get in plank position than they did so that cut off some of the time; I didn't actually STOP and TAKE A BREAK at any point. My knees are KILLING me though--I think it's a combination of hiking down two mountains last weekend, doing squats and running this week, AND kneeling to paint yesterday. Poor fat knobs.
Oh and the scale is doing it again. I stepped on it this morning and of course I'm bouncing back and forth around 200 now. Oh well, at least I HIT the 190s. Hah.
Today is a day of packing, cleaning and laundry. Though I'm about to shower and walk to Bruegger's Bagels for breakfast since I don't have any milk. And I don't want to buy any since I'm leaving tomorrow. TOMORROW--SHIT.

30 Day Shred: L2D3
I decided Autry needed his own post, so that's why I'm posting twice today. That news really put a damper on my day, and I feel like this entry would have been a lot peppier if I did it right when I got back from internship today.
Regardless, I got up at 7:30am to do 30DS. Still kicked my ass, though I think I only took two breaks (mostly during the planks). PLUS, I weighed in this morning and am officially UNDER 200 lbs: 199.8 lbs. :D BIG. FUCKING. ACCOMPLISHMENT.
I did a lot of moving around today since I went to the Disaster House shoot. I was painting, planting and sweeping. I was there from 9:30am until 5pm so I figured I burned a lot of calories doing that so I'm not concerned with a second cardio workout tonight. I'm pooped and just want to sit down and watch "Say Yes to the Dress." I did log 4 hours of "light cleaning" on MFP, and even though I'm sure I burned waaay more than that, I just count the rest as bonus burn. :)
Anyways, just wanted to log this information. I have a lot to do tomorrow too to get ready for SUNDAY--when I leave. YAY!

RIP Autry 07.22.11

Even though you were annoying and I was allergic to you, I loved having your spunky little ass around, and my house won't be the same without you. It sucks that I'll be home in five days, but I'm glad you're in a better place and out of your misery. Have fun hanging out with Squiggles in pet heaven. :)

Run It
I FINALLY RAN AGAIN! I think spacing out my runs more sporadically like this actually helps my quality of run. Tonight, I ran 1 mile @ 5mph, 0.75 mile @ 4.5mph, and then walked 0.25 mile. Total 2 miles in 27 minutes. BAM! And the only reasons I didn't finished the second mile running was that I had a cramp (too soon after eating I suspect) and my shoulder hurt...I blame Jillian Michaels for that. Too many planks.
Anyways, time to eat eat eat to get my net cals back to 1200. :) Cheers!

Did it still kill me? YES. Did I still stop 4 or 5 times to catch my breath/let my arms rest? YES. Did I power through until the end? YES. DAMN YOU LEVEL TWO! I'm thinking fat people get screwed over by planks--we have more to hold up damnit. I can't sit in a plank for a minute AND try to twist my abs. Fuck.
As far as the weight, the scale is being its normal self again. I thought this morning I would be under 200 lbs, but alas, I weighed 200.4 lbs. I'm thinking it was the glass of water I chugged when I woke up. Oh well, as long as I'm under before I leave on Sunday, I'll be happy. :)

30 Day Shred: L2D1
Oops, I just realized I forgot to blog this morning. I was running a little behind so it's probably best anyways. Today was the first day of Level 2 and we all know how much I've been dreading it. (Can you imagine how much I'm going to hate Level 3?? I shudder.) It was pretty exhausting, but I survived. It was easier than the last time I did it though, that I remember. So hopefully, I'll make good progress with these next 10 days.
In other news, I weighed in this morning. Drumroll please...
Do you see that?? Weight was 200 lbs exactly. That hiking this weekend reeeally pushed my loss over that hurdle. HUZZAH! I might even weight tomorrow in hopes of being UNDER 200 lbs. Even though I still have like 30 lbs to lose (maybe, at most...), being in "ONE-derland" as MFP calls it is going to be AMAZING. :)

30 Day Shred: L1D10
LAST DAY OF LEVEL 1! Woot. Tomorrow I'll weight in and measure to see what has changed since I started. I'm not expecting miracles, I'm just hoping that I've lost those stingy last couple pounds that were floating around 204.
Also, I'm terrified to start Level 2 tomorrow. It's such a bitch.

30 Day Shred: L1D9
Well, I took the weekend off from 30DS, but I hiked two mountains while I was there so I think that made up for it. Haha. It was so much fun (see Tumblr for more details) and even though I thought I was going to die while I was hiking, the view from the tops was totally worth it. :)
I'm back into the swing of things though; I did L1D9 this morning and am drinking my strawberry/blueberry/banana smoothie now. I did step on the scale this morning just to see aaaaand...it's looking promising! I'm not looking forward to starting Level 2--the memories from last time still haunt my shoulders/arms. Oh well...

30 Day Shred: L1D8
I can't believe I'm up right now... I went and saw the midnight premiere of Harry Potter last night, so I didn't get to bed until at least 3am. But surprisingly, I'm pretty awake and when my alarm went off, I drank my water and got up. WHOA. And thus I have completed day 8 of Level 1.
I also realized that if I DON'T do both 30DS workouts this weekend (or either of them), I'll still be getting exercise because I know we'll be hiking and such. I'll just be two days behind, but I don't think it will be THAT big of a loss?
Speaking of loss, I may have hopped on the scale this morning just to see: 202.2 lbs. Now I'm not holding my breath--this weekend may mess that up or it may just change on its own cause my body is really, really REALLY fighting against the 190s. We'll see.

NO BREAKS. I even may have upped the power on the jump ropes. But still, those anterior raises. DAYUM. It takes all I have to raise those 8 lb weights up to my eye level that I KNOW I'm not doing the leg exercise correctly. Oh well, my legs get enough exercise with the squats and running; I need to work on the arms anyways.
We'll see if I end up doing anymore exercise tonight, as long as it doesn't monsoon like it did last night. Ugh.
I'm also thinking I'll weigh in before I go to Crested Butte just to see what has changed, even though I'll probably blow it. It seems like anytime I'm not diligent, I gain six lbs. EFF.

I need to think of a new title for my running posts...
Haha. But really, I do. I'm not really "5K training" at all anymore. More so just running when I can and trying to improve my speed and distance without a deadline. It's better that way because most of the plans I follow seem to work out well for the first half and then they increase too quickly for me to keep up. Then I get discouraged and quit. So now I'm just doing it my way. *cue Sinatra*
Anyways, I kind of like this two workouts a day thing. Keeps me moving and busy. Plus, since it's raining most nights, it's nice to not see the gloomy sky while I'm at the gym. Tonight, I did the treadmill: 1.25 miles @ 5mph, 0.5 mile @ 4.5 mph, and then 0.25 @ 3mph. I'm pretty proud of that run! I ran over a mile at a faster speed AND THEN KEPT GOING. I am so awesome sometimes. :)
Total = 2 miles in 27 minutes

So I biked last night, and though I could feel a little soreness in my legs during the jumping jacks and such, it didn't affect me too badly. I'm still struggling with the anterior raises and I'm starting to realize that I might have to get smaller weights. UUUGGGHHH. Can someone donate a pair, please?
I'm also starting to wonder how this weekend is going to work--they will be the last two days of Level 1 and I'll be down in Crested Butte with friends. Hmm.
Last thought of the day: my legs are still slightly sore and I can only hope they get unsore before I weigh in or else they're going to screw up EVERYTHING. Everything. *dramatic*

Calorie Limits are All Relative
What do you do when you only have 126 calories left in the day and you want to make sure you don't go over but its your TOM and you are hungry like mad? Go to the gym at 830pm and bike for 40 minutes so that you can come home and eat organic strawberry yogurt and granola. Mmmmm. Tummy happy now. :)

30 Day Shred: L1D4
Feel a little less sore today. I even did the whole workout without stopping for a break. Those anterior raises are still rough and I know I'm not doing them correctly, but it's really hard to work on leg form when it takes ALL I HAVE to get those 8 lb weights up to my eyes.
I'm about to try out my new blender for breakfast. I found a few good recipes from MFP and a running website that I want to try out. I bought all the ingredients yesterday. Also, when I was washing the blender, I accidentally cut my finger with the blades. Ow.

30 Day Shred: L1D3
This weekend has been absolutely INSANE. Yesterday was the longest day in the history of the world. Got up at 6:30am to do 30DS, then proceeded to hike around a trail for 45 minutes filming at Lair O' the Bear, hike/climb up Clear Creek Canyon to film people rock climbing, go grocery shopping, and then film/host my picnic at my friend's house. WHEW. All I can say is THANK YOU JESUS that it stopped raining just in time for the picnic. I think it turned out well.
Then this morning I was so sore that I didn't do 30DS. Instead, I drove to Best Buy to buy a new 2TB external hard drive and then walked around downtown filming Denver b-roll. It could have been a simple task, but I got lost a little...so I ended up walking around for 30-45 minutes. HAH. But I got lots of b-roll, including the big blue peeping bear. ;)
THEN got home before it monsooned again. Went to Safeway. Then forced myself to workout by saying that I wouldn't cook dinner until I did 30DS. So I did it. Level 1, Day 3. Still had to stop during the first set of jumping jacks, but I think it's cause I was so exhausted from this weekend.
Time to shower and cook dinner! YUM!

30 Day Shred: L1D2
Today is a big day for me. I'm up at 6:45am so that I can do 30DS, eat breakfast, got up to Morrison to film Kirsten trail jog, go to Clear Creek Canyon to film her and Chris climb, come back and buy ingredients for my picnic, film Kirsten cooking, and then go to Emily's to set up for my picnic and FILM THAT TOO. OH MY GOD.
I'm so stressed out. I have to worry about mics and batteries and cords and getting the right shots and getting releases signed and AHHHHHHH. Remind why I'm doing this again...

30 Day Shred: L1D1
So today started my ambitious 30 workout regime. I restarted 30DS from Level 1, Day 1 and it was sad to see how much I regressed. I had to stop once to catch my breath during cardio and I wasn't as into my punching squats BUT I did do the unmodified butt kicks and my anterior raises were almost always to my eye level. You win some, you lose some.
I also made a neat Excel sheet to keep track of my runs/workouts with a weigh-in/measurement column after each Level completion.

5K Training: Day 74
At this point, I'm not even really doing "5K training" so I'm thinking about changing my blog titles from here on out...maybe. I came up with a new workout regime that I'm hoping will work out well. Everyone seemed to be getting GREAT results from 30DS that I just wasn't seeing, so I'm going to start over and do the workouts everyday like you're supposed to, instead of just XT-ing. I'm also going to keep running every other day. That sounds really ambitious...but damnit, I'm going to try!
Anyways, I didn't feel too awesome this morning so I went to the gym after dinner. I ran 1.25 miles @ 5mph, walked 0.25 mile @ 3mph, ran 0.5 mile @ 5mph, and then walked 0.44 mile @ 3mph = 2.19 miles in 30 minutes.
Tomorrow starts the double workouts. Wish me luck!

5K Training: Day 73
I don't know what I'm doing anymore. Haha. I'm not really following my running plan as of late; the whole vacation thing really threw me off. I guess I feel accomplished for being able to jog 2 miles at 4.5 mph, but now I'm trying to up my speed as opposed to distance. Finally can say that I am "running" now since I'm going 5 mph. It's kind of frustrating when people say "only 5 mph." DO YOU KNOW HOW FAST THAT IS TO ME? Damn.
Anyways, here's what I did:
1 mile @ 5mph
0.25 mile @ 3mph
0.5 mile @ 5mph
0.59 mile @ 3mph = 2.09 mile/30 minutes
10 lbs:
15 bicep curls
15 right tricep bench extensions
15 left tricep bench extensions
10 anterior raises
15 bicep curls
15 right tricep bench extensions
15 left tricep bench extensions
50 crunches
25 reverse crunches
25 right knee oblique crunches
25 left knee oblique crunches

5K Training: Day 71
Even though my initial plan was to NOT workout today in order to get back on my original running schedule, my eating habits today were less than moderate (too much vacation time taught my appetite bad manners) so I decided to go to the gym and run. It felt nice to actually ENJOY my run as opposed to thinking I was running through the eighth level of Hell...
Anyways, here's what I did:
1 mile @ 5mph
0.5 mile @ 3mph
0.5 mile @ 5mph
0.09 mile @ 3mph == 30 minutes cardio
(10 lbs for all)
15 bicep curls
15 tricep bench extensions, right
20 tricep bench extensions, left
20 bicep curls
20 tricep extensions, right
15 tricep extensions, left
10 anterior raises
50 crunches
25 reverse crunches
15 oblique crunches to right knee
15 oblique crunches to left knee
I was feeling ambitious. We'll see how I feel tomorrow morning. Right now, it's time to shower and get ready for fireworks round 2. Let's hope Black Hawk's show is better than Denver's. Last night was a pansy display. HAPPY FOURTH YA'LL!

5K Training: Day 70/71
Technically since it is midnight, it's day 71 but whatever. Just got back from my Kiawah vacation, and as much as I tried to run, the heat/humidity combo got me. Nine months away from the Midwest/South and my humidity tolerance is cupoot. The longest distance I ran straight was the first day in North Carolina (probably when I most hydrated the entire week as well) and that was only just over a mile. Then we ran in Kiawah between houses for about .75 miles. Then we ran this morning in Ohio for a total of just over a mile with breaks in between. So for the 1.5 that I was gone, I only ran about 3 miles. BLEH.
Plus, I ate crappy and didn't drink NEARLY enough water. I don't even think I'm going to weigh tomorrow--I'll just give it a week to let things settle again...
